As a military veteran with more than three decades of continuous weapons training, I understand all too well the dangers of firearms designed to hit multiple targets with rapid speed.
It's time for common sense gun safety laws. That means universal background checks and restrictions on weapons built for the battlefield.
Last year, America faced 340 mass shootings. Four of them happened in Virginia. I don't want to take anyone's guns. No reasonable Democrat does. What I want to do, and what I hope everyone wants to do, is to reduce the number of people who are dying. That's why I think we need universal background checks and restrictions on weapons built for the battlefield.
